We need more referees for the Bobcat!
All referees will get the standard rate plus 100% compensation in gas and hotel fees. Higher ranked referees are getting paid double our usual rate.
We will also have a hospitality room with a full compliment of food and drinks. (Texas State is well known for feeding and watering our staff much better than the usual.)
Also as usual, we will also have an "after-party" on Saturday night. (At Kyle's place... This should be a lot of fun!)
Registration fee and first event: $45 Each additional event: $10
Preregistration closes on 09/18/2009.
Venue doors open at 8:00am each day.
*** PARTICIPANT INFORMATION *** - Participation is limited to fencers whose USFA membership status can be verified. A database of current SWS members is available at http://www.southwestfencing.org. Fencers who's status cannot be confirmed either here or through the national office will NOT be allowed to compete. USFA membership will be available at the day of the tournament.
- Minors (under 18) must have a Waiver signed by their Parent or Guardian when checking in; a coach's signature is NOT acceptable.
AGE CRITERIA FOR OPEN TOURNAMENTS The USFA Board of Directors has ruled that for any USFA competition that is not specific to an age group, an athlete must be at least 13 years old as of January 1 of the fencing season. The exemption to this rule applies to any fencer who is younger than 13 on January 1 but who is listed on the latest National Junior Point standings; then that fenceris allowed to compete in the USFA competitions not specific to an age group. The athlete must meet any other criteria stated for that competition. Examples of such non-specific competitions are: "Open", "Unclassified", "A" competitions, "C" or under competitions, Team competitions of any category unless specified for juniors or similar age restricted category.
EQUIPMENT CHECKS All events will be fenced electrically. Equipment checks will consist of masks, body cords and lame's. Sabre cuffs, underarm protectors, fencing knickers and any and all safety equipment per USFA regulations are REQUIRED.
**** REFEREE CLINIC **** $30 at the door, or preregister on askfred! Limited to ~15 persons. Class room work and test will be on Friday; practicals on Saturday and Sunday (at this years annual Bobcat). Class room work will be held in Jower's Gymnasium Classrooms 219-220. Just FYI, as previously, I am posting the results for Gulf Coast Division fncers at the 2009 Junior Olympics in Albuquerque on the Texas Gulf Coast Forum, here:
This is an Open tournament. Events will be Mixed and Women's. If less than 6 women preregister for an event, the women will decide whether or not to hold the event. USFA rules apply.
USFA membership and Division Waiver required. Both forms will be available at the tournament.
You may also get your own copy of the waiver here and have it filled out in advance.

FYI #1: Those who do not preregister and are late may be assigned as referees or gophers, depending on skills. So there. (Okay, so we're just kidding on this one... maybe)
FYI #2: This is on the same weekend as the Spruill-Masters. (We had it first.)
FYI #3: This gym is carpeted... just so you know.

I have returned to setting up voting polls so fencers can pick who they think will win the major events at the Pouj.

USFCA Foil Coaching Clinic - 9/21/08 « Result #18 on Aug 17, 2008, 12:58am »

On Sunday, September 21st, a foil-only clinic will be held at Northwestern University (Evanston campus), conducted by fencing masters Laurence Schiller and Tony Gillham.
Where: Patten Gymnasium 2407 Sheridan Road Evanston, IL 60208
When: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The later afternoon will be used for any testing.
This USFCA sponsored clinic will cover footwork, group lessons, and lesson giving foil. You do not need to be a member of the USFCA to attend the clinic. However, if you want to take the practical certification exam, you must be a member of the USFCA, register and take the written exam on the USFCA web site, and let the organizer know you plan to take the practical. USFCA fees apply.
The clinic will not be held with less than 6 participants, so please register. Please note that this clinic will focus on foil only.

WHERE: National Convention Center — Fencing Hall.
WHEN: Aug. 9-17.
MEDALS: Men's and women's individual competitions in epee, foil and saber, team competitions in epee (men), foil (women) and saber (both).
OUTLOOK: Most top foil and epee fencers are from European countries such as Italy, but the U.S. has been making strides in saber. Mariel Zagunis won the women's saber title in Athens for the first American gold medal in fencing in 100 years. ....
MODERN PENTATHLON
WHERE: National Conference Center — Fencing Hall; Yingtung Natatorium; National Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
WHEN: Aug. 21-22.
MEDALS: Men's and women's individual competitions.
OUTLOOK: The modern pentathlon consists of five events: shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian and running. France's Amelie Caze and Egypt's Aya Medany are among the top female modern pentathletes. ....
